Q & A WITH KELLY AND KRISHA, DESIGNERS AND CREATIVE DIRECTORS AT SALASAI

Tell us a little something about the collection?

"The collection is an agglomeration of nations that are coming together. We've called it human kind, simply because we as a brand want to acknowledge all the turmoil that is happening in the world today through nations of people being unaccepted and isolated and segregated, so we thought we would try and create a collection that paid homage to all those that are struggling and show that as people we can actually change. It's kind of a deep theme but um it was our '10-year' we really wanted to be affected by the work around us pretty much." - Krisha, Designer at Salasai

BEAUTY NOTES

BACKSTAGE Q&A WITH KIEKIE STANNERS OF MAC COSMETICS

What inspired Salasai's beauty look this season?
"For the Salasai beauty, we wanted it to have a really austere feeling to it. We wanted it to feel almost statuesque and have really sculpted and constructed faces. With the hair being almost like this wind swept black and white photograph so we wanted to replicate that with the makeup making it really contoured, really shaped and really defined, without strong colour. The skin was a really silky satin highlighted effect that created dimension to the face without being overly heavy or distracting from everything else that was happening with the garments or the prints of the styling." - Kiekie Stanner, MAC Cosmetics

Q&A WITH RICHARD KAVANAGH OF REDKEN FOR HAIR

Tell us a little something about the hair direction for Salasai this season?

"I was thinking of Richard Avedon’s women and imagined a beautiful, elegant woman, on a windswept west coast beach. We used Redken Fashion Waves (sea salt spray) in dry hair, and then set the hair on a small curling tong to create texture. Some girls needed more guts to their hair, so we also used Redken Guts Volumising Spray Foam and dried it in with a hot hairdryer before tonging. Then the hair is twisted, folded and pinned into a kind of loose french twist secured with an antique style barrette. www.Kokoro.world has the coolest shit! The finishing touch is to pull a few bits out and spray with strong hold hairspray (we used Redken triple take) to make it feel like she is caught in a windstorm on the beach." - Richard Kavanagh for REDKEN
