At Sauce, we take those carefully picked beauty products to be our lawfully wedded October Favourites, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, to love and to cherish, till novelties do us part.
We are excited to share with you our monthly round-up post on the best jars, tubes, and bottles among everything we have tried and loved this month. There is a bit of everything: goodies for your face, body, and hair.
Jo Malone London Lime Basil and Mandarin Exfoliating Shower Gel
Jo Malone London is Sauce favourite! They possess so many scents we adore, we lost count a ago time ago. And there is one that I want to hold very dear at least for the next couple of months—Lime Basil and Mandarin aroma that represents Christmas to me, making me feel like a child again who is surrounded by magic. I am taking it a notch up this season with the Exfoliating Shower Gel in Lime Basil and Mandarin. A perfect 3 in 1: wash, scrub, and perfume.
Available at Jo Malone London boutiques, see here for stockists details, $80.
AEsop Resolute Hydrating Body Balm
It was my personal ah-ha moment when I discovered Aesop Resolute Hydrating Body Balm. It hydrates my skin so well that I can go for a couple of days without using any more cremes. The key is shea butter accompanied by a wheat germ and sweet almond oils. The spicy scent of black pepper and patchouli kick starts my day better than caffeine.
Available here, $47.
Bondi Sands Coconut Beach Sunscreen Oil SPF 30
Tanned bodies and sunscreen? Welcome to Bondi Sands. Coconut Beach Sunscreen Oil SPF 30 is ah-mazing, and a great affordable option too. The texture is on point (not too runny, not too thick, and not too sticky) and it smells, well, like a vacation. Even if you are not leaving the country but rather sunbathing in your yard, it will make you feel like you are in the Bahamas. Water-resistance (for upto two hours) is a game changer—it brings back the joy of dipping into the pool or sea to refresh.
Available here, $21.99.
COCOOIL Coconut & Sea Salt Ocean Spray
Welcome to the club of coconut-addicted people—you are free to join. COCOOIL Coconut & Sea Salt Ocean Spray is the best smelling hair product I have tried so far. It is super useful and ridiculously affordable as well. If you love coconut aroma, salt sprays, texturised hair, and beach waves, it is a match made in heaven. Nothing should keep the two of you apart.
Available here, $26.99.
Kérastase Réflection Touche Chromatique
The first ink-in-care Kérastase Réflection Touche Chromatique is handy to keep colour-treated hair bright for longer. It can save you a fortune on refreshing your colour every now and then. Mix 10 pumps of Touche Chromatique with Masque Chromatique and apply onto clean and towel-dried hair for five minutes. And, done!
P.S. Available in four shades: cool blonde, cool brown, copper, and red.
Available here, $35.
YSL Top Secret Illuminating Cleanser
Moving on to my biggest discovery of the month—an uber cleanser that washes off everrrything in one go. To be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of foam cleansers until I met YSL Top Secret Illuminating Cleanser. I keep it in the shower for multitasking purposes, and it takes me less than 10 seconds to take all off my make-up.
Available here, $81.
YSL All Hours Concealer
One more YSL product worth mentioning is a concealer that actually does its job. YSL All Hours Concealer is a bit too dry for under eye area but perfect for covering blemishes and other little flaws. I can’t. Stop. Using it.
Available here, $66.
Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup
I thought there were no more beauty products that could surprise me but this one did. Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Everyday Perfection Bouncy Makeup is a hybrid of a powder and cream in a unique gel format (and, in a pressed powder packaging). The ingredient list is quite impressive: hyaluronic acid, jojoba and peppermint oils, ginseng, and caffeine (read the role the latter plays in skincare). It is such a keeper for on-the-go touch-ups and, of course, travelling. Easy to layer to reach fuller coverage in problem areas.
Available here, $79.
Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil
Despite all my feelings for YSL Top Secret Foam Cleanser that I have mentioned before, my old lover Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil deserves its place in this article. I am so obsessed with it that I can use half a bottle in just a month. That is how much I love it. I use it every time when I want to refresh my skin because this one doesn’t dry it at all. I still remember my first make-up appointment at Bobbi Brown corner store ages ago. A make-up artist removed traces of my foundation with this oil on a cotton pad. I just couldn’t forget that soft feeling and went back the next day to buy it. I have tried many oil cleansers since then but nothing comes even close.
Available here, $85.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
Okay, one more cleanser worth mentioning is Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm—our founder’s favourite product this month. She loves everything about it: the light texture, the lack of fragrance, the packaging, and the soft and silky touch that it leaves on her skin. And to make it even more intense, Zeenat is a cleansers maniac—she has tried almost every cleanser on the market and carefully picks her must-haves.
Available here, $65.
Estée Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion
If your skin lacks energy and moisture, this caption is definitely for you. Estée Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion is a concentrated micro-nutrient bio-ferment that strengthens the skin. Note that there would be no instant changes, but after some time, you will be able to see the difference. I have been using it only for a week yet but don’t want to let it go ever. This 75 mils bottle is going to last you for quite a while, as you only need to use a couple of drops. There are two options for application: with a cotton pad or directly with your hands, which, frankly, I prefer the most, as it saves time and this holy essence. Say no more to dull skin.
Available here, $84.
Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color
The lip crush of the year and Bobbi Brown’s most recent launch, Crushed Lip Color, made us willing to buy every shade that is on the market. FYI, there are twenty-plenty of them. Just take a quick look at those names: Sunset, Watermelon, Cherry, Blackberry, and Plum. The entire collection presents natural hues. I fell for Baby—a perfect pinky nude colour. It is an ultimate, undemanding lipstick for daytime that is super easy to apply without a glance at the mirror. Bear in mind that these lipsticks aren’t excessively pigmented and would produce more of a tinted balm kind of a look.
Available here, $58.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
Talking about Bobbi Brown-worthy make-up products, there’s one that Zeenat fell in love with. She says Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick is amazing. Buildable coverage allows you to camouflage all the skin imperfections and to look flawless with no mask effect on. The stick format makes application a piece of cake. For best results, Zeenat uses the holy grail of sponges—beautyblender. She also mentions that those natural pigments work wonders for people with deeper skin tone and unusual undertones. Well, there are 31 shades, so I would be surprised if you can’t find the correct one.
Available here, $86.
Estée Lauder X Victoria Beckham Aura Gloss
There was one product that we almost had a fight over to decide who wants to keep it the most. Limited edition only but seriously, desperately good! The beauty world was shaken by the Autumn/Winter 2017 collaboration between Estée Lauder and Victoria Beckham. Aura Gloss is to die for, and I am not exaggerating. This shiny pearly lip gloss with golden particles will make you outshine anyone. The little secret is that you can apply it not only on your lips but also on cheekbones and bridge of the nose. A1 for sunny days.
Available at Smith & Caughey's Auckland, David Jones Wellington, Ballantynes Christchurch and H&J Smith Dunedin, $75.
Lancôme Rôsy Plump
Another October favourite lip gloss is Lancôme Rôsy Plump, which keeps lips ultra hydrated and good looking at the same time (and, teeny tiny bigger). Zeenat says it makes her lips looking like a glaze on a Krispy Kreme doughnut. And, if you occasionally taste it (which happens sometimes), it will remind you of one.
Available here, $56.
NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment
Watery in texture and smudge-resistant when it dries out—NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment takes make-up for lips on a whole new level. Those lightweight pigments are disturbingly beautiful and available in 18 shades, which makes it so difficult to choose. Our top picks are in red-ish tones, Don’t Stop and rich berry pink Warm Leatherette.
Available here, $41.
M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour
For the full-on party look, try M.A.C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. Its highly pigmented texture will create a killer look. Moreover, as M.A.C perpetually encourages mixing shades to boost creativity, this can be a thing. Just put together some colours on your wrist and add some twist to your casual make-up application. For example, ombre effect from red to burgundy. I solemnly swear this lipstick will be stuck to your lips as a classmate that was in love with you in high school.
P.S. Trying before buying is a must, as those babes look a shade darker in real life rather than in the packaging.
Available here, $50.
Garnier Hydra Bomb Tissue Mask
Nothing can make me happier after a tough day than a good sheet mask while watching Netflix. Netflix and mask can easily become a new trend. Garnier Hydra Bomb Tissue Mask is a bedside table’s indispensable item and the beauty sine qua non, especially when it comes to hydration. The cut is slightly unusual but no biggie. It would fit your face anyway.
Available at selected pharmacies and stores, $4.99.
Kiehl's Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream
The last but definitely not the least news I have for you is about New York born and bred beauty brand Kiehl's. They partnered with Autism Speaks and created a Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream to raise funds and awareness for autism. The one-of-a-kind packaging was designed and promoted by Matthew McConaughey. A great opportunity to purchase your favourite product and support a good cause.
Available here, $98.
All prices are in NZ dollars.
