The Gift Edit | The most thoughtful gifts for your bff + bride-to-be
If you’re one for celebrating and parties, there’s few times more exciting than one of your besties getting engaged! Between the first champagne toast, through an engagement party, weekends of cake-tasting and dress shopping, a hens’ weekend and then ultimately the main event, it won’t be long between bubbles!
As well as looking forward to many glasses of celebratory Champers, you may be also be looking to buy her a thoughtful gift. Do you take a bottle of bubbles around as soon as the newsbreaks or wait till the engagement party, or surprise her later when she’s feeling stressed and overwhelmed?
Depending on the bride-to-be in your life, I’ve curated the perfect gift list for all occasions.
When she said yes
When the newsbreaks and your bestie announces her engagement, there’s no better way to celebrate than a bottle of bubbles and a special gift.
When it comes to buying a present for the bride-to-be, there is a ‘one-size fits all’ and that’s the little white book. A wedding diary and organiser, it’s the engagement gift that keeps on giving, and even beyond the wedding it’s a beautiful keepsake of an exciting year in your friend’s life.
Wedding diary and organiser :
Little White Book, $69. Available here.
When finances are strained
Whether you’ve been married or not, you know that weddings can be ridiculously expensive, so for many brides, luxury treats take a back seat. If your budget allows, make her feel extra special with something you know she won’t be buying herself for a little while, like a candle or a beautiful fragrance. I adore the Jo Malone's classic red roses fragrance, or Elizabeth Arden’s sweet combination of white iris, madras wood and tonka bean in White Tea. The new Coach fragrance is perfect for bright spring days.
Bridal fragrance suggestions :
Red Roses Cologne, Jo Malone London, 100ml $232. Available at Smith & Caugheys.
Eau de Parfum, Coach, 50ml $85. Available here.
White Tea, Elizabeth Arden, 30ml $50. Available here.
When wedding planning is overwhelming
If she’s lacking beauty sleep, treat her to the ultimate for under-eye bags with Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask. This ‘golden ticket’ of beauty is instantly cooling and soothing, and leaves eyes plump, hydrated and all-around lovely. For the most thoughtful friend: pop a couple in her wedding congratulations card to take on her honeymoon flight.
At-home pampering :
Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Mask, Estée Lauder, $94 (4 in one box). Available here.
When she needs a pick me up
When planning a wedding, sometimes things just don’t go right. Whether it’s wedding budget issues, a close friend can’t make it back from overseas, or she’s fighting with her fiancé over something trivial, sometimes she might just need a little pick-me-up. Small posies of flowers, a lippie she’ll love or a chat over a sweet treat might be all it takes to lighten her load and brighten her mood. I love 44-nude colour by YSL rouge volupté lip shine lipstick (pictured).
A little something :
The Caker cake mix + flowers, Blush Flowers, $80. Available here.
Rouge lip shine in nude-44, YSL, $66. Available here.
The day before the wedding
When all is organised and it’s time for the final countdown, there’s little you can do but be there to support her, and lend a hand where you can. Run her a hot bath with creamy bath milk and encourage her to relax before the big day.
The day before (or the morning of the wedding) :
Almond Milk & Money Calming Bath Milk for Sensitive Skin, The Body Shop, $34.50. Available here.
