Peachy-Keen, Boosted Immunity

Peachy-Keen, Boosted Immunity

Boosted immunity and feel-good vibes are only A drink away

If you are feeling tired and run down this time of the year, you are not alone. We spend less time outdoors soaking up Vitamin D, the whole office is suffering from the dreaded flu and exercise regimes take a backseat. Therefore it is more important than ever to have food that loves our bodies back.

I met the lovely Abbie from Feel Fresh Nutrition in Grey Lynn, who has delightfully chosen and named three recipes for us that are packed with the necessary vitamins and minerals we need to boost our energy, well being and immunity this winter.

Ingredients such as frozen blueberries, walnuts, cinnamon, and coconut will aide in nourishment as we trek through winter. If you are on top of your game with exercise, then the following will be a beautiful synergy.

The recipes take a little time to prepare, are made with easy ingredients (there is no need for exotic or hard-to-find potions), and are easy to throw into your gym bag, which is exactly what we want!

This delightful morning smoothie has nearly half our recommended amount of fibre in one glass! Dietary fibre is necessary for maintaining digestive well-being and helps clear toxins from the body, leaving you feeling lighter and revitalised.
½ cup coconut water
1 cup kale
1 banana
1 pear
1 tsp. psyllium husk (available from any wholefood shop)

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

CREAMY FUEL FIT SMOOTHIE (otherwise known as the Elle-Fit Fox)

Restoring energy is necessary after a workout. Nuts and berries can help fight fatigue, and this is a winning combo post-workout. The berries will provide with antioxidants that boost your immune system and keep you healthy.

1 cup coconut milk
3/4 cup blueberries
¼ cup raspberries
1 tsp. chia seeds
10 x walnuts
1 tsp. coconut oil
1 tsp. flaxseed oil
2 dates

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

This beautiful, creamy smoothie is packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, and Magnesium, which is vital in boosting immunity.

1 cup of spinach
1.5 bananas
1 small piece of fresh ginger (peeled)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground cardamom

Blend spinach and 2 cups of water until smooth, and then add the rest of ingredients and blend again. If you like coconut milk, you could add ½ cup to the mixture as well.

Try them out and enjoy!
I have a consult with Abbie in a few weeks time and I can’t wait!
