Sauce In Conversation With Marc Moore Of Stolen Girlfriends Club

Sauce chats to Marc More of Stolen Girlfriends Club. Along with a preview of the show collection at New Zealand Fashion Week this year, photographed by Adam Bryce. But first, let get to know Marc Moore :-)

Hometown: Raglan
Where do you live now:  Avondale
How do you take your coffee:  long black on weekdays.  Soy flat white on weekends.
Favourite meal:  my girlfriends vegetarian nachos – i could eat it every day of the week.  Best i’ve ever had.
Your drink: mar©arita.

The collection and the inspiration…
It’s inspired by the iconic film ‘natural born killers’ – focusing on the intense bond that the main couple share in the movie.

What can we expect in terms of the music and casting

At this point i haven’t started the music – first recording sessions this week with 3 in total.  Initially i was going to build the soundtrack with a similar feeling to the film ‘natural born killers’ but now i think it’s best to create ur own original score so we can take this whole idea somewhere new – and trying to be less nostalgic.  Something dark, something electronic.

Model casting is hard in nz with a smaller pool than most countries/cities have.  We always look for people that have some grit to them, they’re a bit different.  We also intergate a bunch of people we cast from the streets (unsigned models, and friends, and friends of friends).

Creative visualization is powerful. Do you often create moodboards for your collection or do you start with a specific concept or muse in mind while designing?

It changes every season – depending on our mood and what’s happening around us.  Sometimes it’s a film that sparks the initial concept, sometimes a mood-board is built, sometimes it’s a song or a genre of music.  There’s no set rule.

Stolen girlfriends club has been around for 13 (?) Years and we have all seen it evolve and grow over the years. What’s next for the brand?

14 years this year!  We want to focus more on growing the international business over the next 24-36 months. Honing in on key categories like leather and jewellery.

Which piece from your collection is the most quintessentially stolen girlfriends club?

The leopard faux-fur coat – unmistakenly ‘stolen’ !!

A song/artist/genre you are currently into?

Personally i love ‘house music and a bit of techno atm, but for the brand i’d steer clear of house music and focus on something a bit darker and grittier – techno, dark-wave is still a vibe, punk is also a great fit.

What would you say is the key to a successful show during fashion week?

Having a great team to work with.  People are everything.

Your favourite fashion week memory.

When we staged a fake wedding finale at our aw11 show at mercury theatre.  The ‘bride’ threw her bouquet into the audience and these confetti canons fired into the crowd – give them the biggest fright but fuck it was cool.
