Summer has finally arrived – beach, surf and outdoor living is driving everybody outside. As you have fun in the sun, remember that your hair needs extra protection and tender loving care in this harsh climate.
We asked our friend's at Saba Salon, ace colourist Jessica Taylor to share some rad tips on how to make the most of summer without having to worry about your hair colour fading away or frying up.
Use a hat to protect your hair
The sun oxidises colour and brings out those warm, brassy tones we all love to hate.
Go professional with your haircare
Use professional shampoos and conditioners will help repair and nourish your hair after the sun, sea and wind strips out the moisture. Salon quality shampoos and conditioners will also add vibrancy and lock the cuticle down to prolong the life of your colour. Try to avoid supermarket shampoos as they tend to be high in sulfates which can tend to dry hair even more and fade colour.
(Sauce recommends : Moroccanoil, davines, Goldwell, R&Co and Oribe)
Treat yourself to a treatment
The sun is not the only enemy in summer. Salty sea breezes and ocean swimming will leave your hair feeling dry and distressed. Treatments come in a wide range of options and can be tailored to suit your hair type. Ask your stylist which treatment is best suited to your specific needs and they will tailor a relaxing treatment experience to make you feel brand new again.
Leave-in treatments are your new bffs
Leave-in treatments are always a good idea especially in summer as they add moisture and nourishment to the hair that the summer sun tends to take away. Along with those added benefits most leave-in treatments work on adding shine, heat protection and repairing split ends, with the added bonus that they tend to smell nice too.
Double it up as a styling product. Repair treatments can be left on for a couple of hours. So make the most of it by creating a sleek "wet look" style by adding a braid or a pulled back pony.
(Sauce recommends : Kérastase Nutritive Touch Perfection for a light treatment, $47)
Hair sunscreen is a real thing
Hair sunscreen is actually a thing, and if you find your hair gets especially damaged and uncontrollable in summer, I would suggest investing in some due to it's UV protecting ability.
(Sauce recommends : Schwarzkopf Sun Repair Leave-In Spray RRP, $11.99 and Davines SU Milk for that light, healthy nourishment and SPF protection, RRP $37)
