The superfood for your face

In proud partnership with The Avo Tree Skincare

It’s not every day we put out sponsored content. There is nothing more I disdain than publications who plug paid pieces like it’s raining money. Each day it’s a new hook, a new product, a new something which is always nothing. But I get it. People need booze, dosh, money for the slots, some sweets in the pantry. I guess, for me anyway, the area between editorial and advertorial is so ambiguous, it’s grey, translucent like some of your favourite gels, it’s undefined and completely rogue. No matter how much the ASA has tried to slap down their phantom fists. But on the flip side. Websites aren’t complimentary, my sugar daddy is on hiatus, and someone has got to keep the lights on. So, over the last few months, Sauce has been working on a couple of projects that sing true to us, that feels right, that doesn’t make me want to set my hair on fire.

The Avo Tree came into our lives at the perfect time. After declining (for the sixth time) to work on the launch of the latest New Zealand pet food brand, we received an email from a friend about her work’s new venture into the skincare realm. It caught our attention, in a flood of spam, this had some something Saucey about it.

Viarni, our friend, who is also a fully-fledged Saucette, contacted us about trialling The Avo Tree’s first skincare range before it went to market. And here we are, three months later, hundreds of slathers and lots of constructive feedback; we are proud to finally be able to tell you about The Avo Tree because it deserves all the air-time.

Shockingly, The Avo Tree’s first foray into the beauty industry is focused on championing the natural benefits of avocado oil for the skin. And who better to pioneer this ingredient than The Avo Tree, who has been New Zealand’s leading supplier of avocados to all homes since 2015. The avocados we all know and love, you know the ones I am talking about, right? The voluptuous, creamy, succulent avocados – yeah, that’s The Avo Tree’s produce, grown in the Bay of Plenty

The Avo Tree has cleverly extracted cold-pressed extra virgin avocado oil from its unparalleled produce to offer a range that is rich in vitamins, antioxidants and healthy fatty acids that replenish and restore the natural beauty of the skin.

Avocado oil is loaded with all the good stuff, vitamins A, B, C, D and E. It’s a rich and nourishing oil that is light-weight so it to penetrates deep within the epidermis to support moisture balance, lock-in hydration and reveal bright and supple skin. Because of vitamin C and E, avocado oil is excellent for blemish and acne-prone skin, as well as being a natural repellent of dreadful free radicals.

At first, I was worried an avocado oil extract would be greasy, too thick and potentially gluggy. But the way the team has formulated it throughout the range is commendable. It’s soothing, gentle and suitable for all skin types. The only person who wouldn’t love this product is someone allergic to avocados, literally. Because the range isn’t over-flowing with actives, it’s accommodating for everyone in their skin journey. I think this is what I love most about the whole concept. I would feel comfortable using all of the products just after I shave when I am most susceptible to rashes. It’s easy, and it requires little thought. I don’t feel worried I am ever going to do overdo it, it’s not a secret weapon, it’s a full-time friend.

So, I’ve taken the liberty to outline the range and how I see each product working for you.

Cream Cleanser – $34.99

A gentle everyday cleanser that is effective at sweeping away the day’s impurities, without leaving the skin irritated, red or stripped. The cleanser cleverly includes manuka honey, which has fabulous antibacterial properties and elderberries to fight free-radicals. I’d use this cleanser as the second step in my routine since I double cleanse.

Exfoliator – $34.99

We all love a bit of exfoliation. There is nothing like brushing off the dead skin to make room for a fresh baby-soft complexion. Quite often, people over-exfoliate; these people include me. Exfoliation removes the body’s natural oils, too – which we need to keep the skin balanced. That’s why it’s essential to opt for a gentle exfoliant. I can vouch that The Avo Tree’s exfoliator is soothing, not abrasive. Ground avocado seeds exfoliate without causing micro-tears. I’m using this physical elixir once or twice a week, max.

Eye Cream – $29.99

Out of all the products, the eye cream is the most potent. Bee venom works to trick the skin into thinking it’s been stung, without the consequential swelling, pain and tears. The brain signals inner layers of the skin to produce more elastin and collagen, to keep the skin firm and tight. We love skincare magic.

Day Cream – $39.99

A superfood for your skin. The day cream is lightweight, packed with proteins, lipids, vitamin C and other emollient properties to keep your skin moisturised and plump. It’s a no-brainer and just does exactly what you think it should. This cream would be great for people with dry skin.

Night Cream – $39.99

My favourite of the lot, this night cream is almost sentimental. The light fragrance is soothing, calming and the dream soul mate before bed. It’s luxuriously thick but leaves no residue on the pillow (which we love). Your skin wakes up feeling fresh and reinvigorated.

Face Oil – $49.99

I know Zeenat loves this product so much. Rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, iron, copper, plus a range of other protective antioxidants. The oil is overflowing in skin-beautifying ingredients; it’s decadent and luxurious. This is a drop of elegance just waiting to be viciously smothered all over your face. I rotate between this and the night cream, as a last-minute pamper right before I get my beauty sleep.
