As Autumn settles along Auckland’s coastline, this editorial traces a nautical-inspired story across Takapuna Beach and the surrounding bays. At its centre is a handmade boat crafted by local sailor Harry, which anchors the imagery and lends the story a sense of authenticity and place.
Drawing on classic Ralph Lauren references, maritime hues and tactile knit textures, the wardrobe was thoughtfully curated from local Kiwi businesses. The shoot also provided an opportunity to spotlight emerging talent, featuring recent graduates Hazel Creevy and Zuleika Uy.
More than anything, this story is a reminder to strike up conversations with strangers — you never know where they might lead. Our small team spent two days wading through water, climbing across boatsheds and chasing the soft light of late autumn. Harry’s boat not only tied the images together, but offered a deeper glimpse into life on the water and the quiet rituals of a sailor.
